National Night Out 2015

Updated August 5, 2015 – What a great National Night Out!! I joined my friends and constituents in the South Oak Park / Fruitridge Pocket neighborhood to celebrate community and the partnership we at the county enjoy with those we serve. UnSupervised provided the live music; Chando’s Tacos, St. Paul Baptist Church, and Next Move provided the food (thank you!!); more than 30 County departments and local non-profits provided the information, and most importantly neighbors had a great opportunity to get to know each other.

UnSupervised usually does a couple of audience participation tunes during each of our gigs, but this rendition of ‘Chain of Fools’ with the kids is our all time favorite. They were great and made the evening!  See video.

National Night Out is an annual nationwide event that promotes and celebrates community partnerships between residents, law enforcement, local government and non-profit organizations.  It is a great opportunity for neighbors to get to know one another, and to learn about public safety initiatives and other efforts to improve residents’ quality of life.

District 1 Supervisor Phil Serna is hosting a National Night Out event on Tuesday, August 4 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM for the South Oak Park/Fruitridge Pocket neighborhood.  The event will bring together numerous County agencies and community organizations.  Residents are invited to attend the free event and meet their neighbors, law enforcement partners, community leaders and County staff.

“Enhancing public health, safety and welfare, and improving the quality of life in our county is a top priority for me and my staff.  While we focus on this mission every day, National Night Out gives us an opportunity to showcase how county government is here to help with everything from fighting crime, to understanding code enforcement, to navigating the building permit process,” said Serna.  “It’s my hope this event and our continuing efforts to improve county services earns us more trust and confidence in the communities we serve.”

The event includes an information fair, children’s activities, refreshments, and live music provided by Serna’s band, “UnSupervised.”
